I was scrabbling around this week trying to get into the back-to-school spirit the beginning of September seems to demand, and I had a few random ideas (vacuum the sand out of my car, get my teeth cleaned….) but then I got the announcement from my TEDx organizer that “Choose to Start” was the theme of our TEDx and I thought, “Perfect!”
“What” you may be asking “is TEDx?”
(Alternatively, you may be thinking, “You’re speaking at a TEDx??” After which it’s my devout hope that you move along briskly to, “When is it?? How can I attend??”)
Well, TED is a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas usually in the form of short, powerful talks. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group.
That’s what I’m doing—and our theme is “Choose to Start” Here is the description:
“We believe there is greatness inside everyone—a desire to make a difference in the lives of those closest to them, in the lives of people in their community, and in their own life.
Everyone has the gift of greatness to share with the world.
We also know there are times when we get in our own way; maybe it’s fear, self doubt, or lack of knowledge that keep us from going out there and sharing our light. The first annual TEDx Colorado Springs wants you to Choose to Start! No matter how small the first step may be, choosing to take that step is the only way to make the change you want to see. We hope to spark in everyone the desire to Choose to Start!”
An excellent theme, n’est pas?
